When I was three, I used a red crayon to color a “picture”. Remarkably, I colored right up to the outline of the fawn and flowers. Not a shred of red crossed the lines.
While I’m no longer using a crayon to color my world, I did discover another way to paint a picture that sometimes challenges the lines. I learned that graphic design can influence everyone’s sphere in some way. It can be used to explain things, sell things, make things look better, make people think, laugh or cry, and even inspire change in the world. It’s like a container for a concept, the big idea that tells a story.
My journey as a lifelong learner has cultivated a deep passion for design and storytelling. This passion drives me to empower clients across diverse sectors — from B2B, workforce development, healthcare, education, nonprofit, to publishing. By blending strategic insight with creative execution, I help clients bring their stories to life and achieve their objectives.
A native of West Michigan, I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kendall College of Art and Design. I began my career on the East Coast, working with a range of advertising agencies and design studios before returning to the Grand Rapids area in 1995. Over the next two decades, I engaged in freelance work followed by a decade-long partnership at thinktwice, a boutique design studio. In 2014, I launched Deanne Carbone Design. I’m married, the mother of three daughters and two sons-in-law, and proudly known as "Mimi" to four delightful grandchildren—Charles, Norah, Audrey, and Franklin. Our family also includes Bear, our beloved dog.
